PHOTO FINISH, the finishing line as never seen before!
Developed
for the leading international sports timekeeping, Photo Finish is now the
official refereeing benchmark for all major track and field, cycling, rowing,
horse racing, speed skating and other international competitions.
From the initial “film-based” beginnings of photo finish for the
Stockholm Olympic Games in 1912, the technological advances in the fields of
electronics, optics and digital imaging have revolutionized the use and
accuracy of sports timing equipment.
After the war, the image increasingly became the key element in timing.
Whilst the earliest photo finishes were black and white and not very
accurate, the resolution offered by today’s sensors makes it possible to
obtain high quality and extremely accurate color images that match the
performances achieved by the athletes.
In terms of the principle of photo finish, based on a cinematographic
camera enhanced only to show the line, has today been sublimated by advanced
linear camera technologies.
Photo Finish in today’s world must satisfy a number of imperatives:
- Continuous capture of high resolution and high quality color images
- Ability to operate indoors and out
- Accuracy and synchronization
- Transmission of images over long distances to a control center
- Real-time recording
- Instantaneous and secure use of the images
- Distribution of images to the media
- User-friendly equipment (installation and alignment)
